A summary of information is presented by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on reported incidents of assaults or deaths of law enforcement officers that occurred in Tennessee in 2005.
Abstract
Highlights of the report include: (1) 253 Tennessee agencies reported law enforcement officers killed or assaulted in 2005; (2) 1 officer was reported as feloniously killed in the line of duty; (3) a total of 2,526 law enforcement officers killed or assaulted incidents were reported; (4) a total of 2,446 injury types were reported; the most frequently reported injury type was 'none' at 66.6 percent followed by apparent minor injuries at 31.4 percent; and (5) a total of 2, 574 weapon types were reported for the 2005 law enforcement officers killed or assaulted incidents with the most frequently reported weapon type, a personal weapon at 63.8 percent. This is the fifth annual report published by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) presenting information on reported incidents of assaults or deaths of law enforcement officers in the State for 2005. Information contained in the report is based on crime statistics submitted by law enforcement agencies in Tennessee to the TBI's Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System program. Tables and figures
