Abstract

This report constitutes Louisiana’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR) for 2005. The Part One Crime Index Total is composed of the offenses of murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny theft, and motor vehicle theft. The total number of Part I offenses in Louisiana known to police in 2005 was 193,500, compared to 227,997 in 2004. The Part I crime rate in 2005 was 4,277.6 crimes per 100,000 population, compared with 5,049.1 per 100,000 population in 2004. Part I Index crime totals are presented for U.S. cities comparable in size to New Orleans, and Louisiana’s national ranking in Index crime categories is shown. Other data presented address Louisiana’s Index crime trend over the last 10 years; arrest data for 2004-2005; drug arrests by drug type for 2005; weapons used in murder, robbery, and aggravated assault; and homicides reported by selected agencies in 2005. Data also address the number of law enforcement officers feloniously killed in 2005. Descriptions are provided for the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program, Louisiana’s Uniform Crime reporting Program, and Louisiana’s Law Enforcement Information Management System. Reporting agencies are also listed. Extensive tables and figures
