Those who study CC have contributed to information gap in four complementary areas: research, mentorship, programming, and advocacy; the primary goals were to identify problems in the criminal justice system and develop realistic solutions to those concerns. The established concept of CC will continue to mentor prisoners and students, conduct research, publish real accounts of prison conditions, teach about how people experience the criminal justice system, and conduct outreach to the public, media, and academic colleagues as a means to support the humane treatment of defendants and prisoners. The goal of convict criminologists is to present new understandings of the problems of crime and criminal justice, to identify areas that need to be changed, and to assist those who have suffered from the effects of a prison sentence. Future studies should explore the possibility of opening a center for CC at a university, or partnering with a private research institute. Through teaching and mentoring, those practicing CC might provide resources to change social reality of crime and punishment in modern society. References
