Abstract
The National Research Institute of Legal Policy (in Finland) conducts social-legal studies in both the field of criminology and general legal policy. Divided into three divisions (the Criminological Unit, the General Unit, and the Administrative Unit), the Criminological Unit is tasked to conduct research on crime, criminality, and the functioning of the criminal justice system. This collection includes summaries of the following research reports: The Paradox of Criminal Policy: Studies of Drug Crime and its Control in Finland; Self-Reported Delinquent Behavior of Young Males in Finland, 1962 and 2006; Juvenile Criminal Justice: Comparative and Criminal Policy Perspective on Sanctioning Juveniles; and Crime Trends in Finland and the System of Criminal Justice. The General Unit's research focus is on evaluation studies in other areas of legal policy. The research report summaries presented in this report and published in 2008 include: Legal Aid and Legal Services in Finland; On a Slippery Slope: An Assessment of an Eviction and Barring Order; The Price of Liberty: Compensation of Unduly Detention; and Child Custody Disputes in Courts of Appeal.
