For the 2 years to the end of December 2008, two major offense categories have been trending upwards in NSW: stealing from retail stores and fraud. Eight of the 17 major offense categories were trending downwards. These included three robbery offenses (robbery without a weapon, robbery with a firearm, and robbery with a weapon not a firearm), as well as five theft offenses (break and enter - dwelling, break and enter - nondwelling, motor vehicle theft, theft from a motor vehicle, and theft from a person). Section 1 of this report presents an overview of trends in NSW recorded crime, followed by section 2 that presents data on trends, rate comparisons, and recorded criminal incidents for major offenses in NSW regions and local government areas. Section 3 presents monthly data for recorded criminal incidents in NSW for 2006, 2007, and 2008. Section 4 contains data on methods of proceedings against alleged offenders for 2006, 2007, and 2008 for NSW. Section 5 provides data on cleared criminal incidents and whether legal proceedings were initiated for selected offenses, covering January 2006 to September 2008. Extensive tables and figures and appended NSW police force offense categories, maps, and local government areas in Sydney statistical subdivisions and NSW regional statistical divisions
