This article provides a professional development framework designed for the juvenile justice system that includes information on the background and purpose of professional development, and provides the structure, objectives, and components necessary to achieve a capacity-building professional development model. The recommended model requires careful and systemic planning, consistency, determination to help participants apply new information, and continuous evaluation of its impact on youth success. Correctional facilities employing a systematic model of professional development can increase productivity, job satisfaction, retention, and the outcomes for youth at the facility. Data were collected through a survey that focused on professional development needs, providing information on areas where teachers felt the greatest need for professional development.
