It is impact resistant, dust and shock proof, with a water-proof rating of IPX7, which is more than adequate for any aspect of law enforcement or military applications. It has a run time of 1.5 hours and weighs 2.3 ounces. It is powered by a single CR2 lithium battery; it is only 2 3/4 inches long and 1 1/2 inches tall. When mounted on a full-size duty handgun, it sits nearly flush with the end of the barrel and barely clears the trigger guard on the bottom. The testing was done with the FNP-9 from FNH-USA. This is a light-weight, high-capacity handgun suitable for concealed carry or duty use. Testers were able to mount the light quickly with little practice. The light could be easily operated with the left or right hand. The light did not flicker on under recoil and stayed on when needed. Shooters with a variety of hand sizes were able to work the controls. The light was also tested on a foggy evening, and it produced less backscatter than several of the tester's patrol lights. It allowed for better target identification down alleyways than a similar 120-lumen light. Overall, the Streamlight TLR-3 is judged to be an excellent selection for the tactical user. It is small enough to fit in a pocket and bright enough to be in an entry team's kit.
