Judges need to know about intimate partner abuse in order to assess risk, craft appropriate orders, effectively resolve custody/visitation matters, and impose appropriate sentences. To assist in recognizing and addressing intimate partner sexual abuse in the contexts of civil, criminal, family, and juvenile law, the National Judicial Education Program created a comprehensive Web course, Intimate Partner Sexual Abuse: Adjudicating this Hidden Dimension of Domestic Violence Cases. The course is funded by the State Justice Institute and the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. The course consists of 13 modules providing an overview of intimate partner sexual abuse and in-depth treatment of issue from immigrant victims to jury selection.
