Annotation: This issue of the AMBER Advocate provides highlights and review of the 2010 National AMBER Alert symposium with overviews of new AMBER Alert programs and initiatives.
Abstract: The 2010 National AMBER Alert Symposium held in Phoenix, AZ in November hosting partners from every State, numerous tribes and territories, Canada, Mexico and the European Union. Participants received updates on training, technology, AMBER Alert Plans, and several State and local initiatives. The symposium included abducted child case studies, and specialized classes on predatory behaviors, crisis communications, human trafficking, AMBER 101, and the Extranet, Criminal Justice Portal and distance learning opportunities. In addition, child abduction victims and their families shared their perspective. Articles on programs and initiatives highlighted in this issue include: (1) an overview on the certification of the Utah Child Abduction Response Team (CART); (2) summary of AMBER Alert crossing borders into Canada in response to a child abduction; (3) the development of an AMBER Alert Program in the Mexican State of Tamaulipas; (4) the launching of the Child Recovery Program in the Mexican State of Nuevo Leon, and (5) the launching of the New Brunswick, Canada AMBER Alert Facebook page. Brief summaries are also presented on California’s addition of new child protection laws, England has new law to protect children from predators, Scotland’s initiative to stop child abductions, Australia hosts Global Missing Children Conference, and California launches Commercial Mobile Alert System.
