Based on data from the Idaho Incident Based Reporting System and the 2005 Crime in Idaho Victimization Survey, this report summarizes statistics on family and intimate-partner violence victims in Idaho for the years 2004-2007.
Abstract
For the purposes of this report, "intimate partner violence" (IPV) is defined as an act of violence - such as murder, rape, robbery, assault, or any forcible sex offenses - committed by a spouse, ex-spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend. From 2004 through 2007, there were 25,095 victims of reported incidents of IPV. The rate of reported IPV in Idaho remained at approximately 4 per 1,000 persons for the period 2004 through 2007. From 2004 through 2007, there were 38,709 victims of reported incidents of domestic violence (including intimate partners). The rate of family violence in Idaho has remained around 7 per 1,000 persons. Among family-violence incidents, there were more involving an intimate partner than a non-intimate family member. Approximately two-thirds of domestic-violence incidents included an intimate partner in the event. The number of victims who reported IPV from the 2005 Crime in Idaho survey, however, indicates this number is much higher. There were 140.9 per 1,000 individuals reporting lifetime acts of emotional or physical abuse by an intimate partner, and 33.9 per 1,000 individuals reporting acts of emotional or physical abuse by an intimate partner in 2005. Regarding the demography of victims of domestic violence and IPV between 2004 and 2007, the average age of all crime victims was 34. Victims of violent crime were younger on average than other crime victims. The average age of all domestic violence victims was 27.9; for intimate partner victims, it was 31.1; the average age of victims of non-intimate partner family violence was 21.9. Victims of domestic violence and IPV are also described by gender, race, and ethnicity. Extensive tables and figures
