This report contains information collected from the annual law enforcement employee survey.

Abstract

This annual report is a collection of law enforcement employee data taken from a yearly survey of agencies participating in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program. The primary purpose of the report is to present information related to the number of full-time sworn law enforcement officers and civilian employees in Wisconsin. This includes the total number of employees for each agency, as well as the rate of employees per 1,000 in population. The data appears in two separate tables; each contains the same information presented in a different format: table 1 contains employee counts and rates for each agency by county while table 2 contains employee counts and rates for each agency by population group. Rates are provided as a way to standardize the numbers and provide for more accurate comparisons across agencies. Of note is that figures for some agencies (e.g., UW Campus Police Departments, DNR, and State Patrol) are absent due to the fact that no permanent resident population is assigned to them. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire to each agency asking for the total number of law enforcement officers on the payroll as of October 31, including full-time sworn law enforcement officers, as well as civilian personnel.
