This report from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare presents data on substance use and abuse within the State of Idaho and surrounding States.
Abstract
Highlights from this report include: 1) compared to other States in the West, Idaho has substance abuse indicators that are moderately low; 2) three of the State's eight regions have higher rates of past month alcohol use and binge drinking; 3) in 2006, 35 percent of treatment admissions were for amphetamine treatment, 23 percent were for marijuana, and 23 percent were for alcohol as a primary drug; and 4) adult treatment admissions for alcohol, marijuana, and methamphetamines increased between 2005 and 2006, while treatment admissions for youth decreased for methamphetamine but increased for alcohol and significantly increased for marijuana use. This report from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare presents data on substance use and abuse within the State and surrounding regions. Data in this report are presented in four main sections. The first section presents detailed information on the consequences of substance abuse that cover alcohol use, smoking, drug use, suicide, arrests, and drug analysis. The next two sections contain information on treatment and consumption of illegal substances. The final section of the report contains demographic information on substance abuse in the State of Idaho and surrounding regions. 2 tables, 59 figures, 11 notes, and 1 appendix
