Highlights from this report on 2009 crimes rates for Louisiana include: 198,305 index crimes were reported in the State in 2009, a slight increase over the number of offenses reported in 2008; the number of offenses reported for aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft declined, while the number of reported offenses increased for murder/homicide, forcible rape, robbery, burglary, and larceny-theft; larceny-theft accounted for the largest number of offenses (57 percent), followed by burglary and aggravated assault; property crimes accounted for 86 percent of offenses, while violent crimes accounted for 14 percent; between 2000 and 2009, the violent crime rate in the State dropped from 681.1 per 100,000 to 620 per 100,000, and the non-violent crime rate dropped from 4,741.6 per 100,000 to 3,794.6 per 100,000; and in 2009, 32,109 persons were arrested for index offenses, with larceny-theft and aggravated assault accounting for the largest number of arrests. This report from the Louisiana Statistical Analysis Center presents data on crime rates for the State of Louisiana for 2009. Data were obtained from information reported by law enforcement agencies to the State's Uniform Crime Reporting System.
