A structural hallmark of the DGVCC program has been the support of multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional drug, gang, and violent-crime task forces and their tandem prosecution projects. In recent years, there has been an increase in the percentage of Arizona jurisdictions with active gangs, along with increased estimates of active gang members. Data indicate that these gangs are involved in the distribution of both marijuana and methamphetamine. Along with the rest of the Nation, Arizona has experienced significant declines in violent-crime rates for the years 2000-2009. The DGVCC aims to curtail the flow of illicit drugs, drug proceeds, and instruments used to instigate violence across Arizona. The following seven "purpose" areas have been identified as potential funding areas for 2012-2015: apprehension, prosecution, forensic support services, adjudication and sentencing, corrections and community corrections, substance abuse treatment in the corrections system, and prevention and education.
