Abstract
This issue features six articles about preparing for disaster: 1) The Role of Leadership Style in Emergency Preparedness which discusses positive and proactive leadership to prevent incidents; 2) Ensuring the Best Defense When Faced With an Unimaginable Opponent about readiness plans for prisons; 3) Lessons Learned: How Harris County (HC) Jail Prepares for Disasters, a brief account of what the HC Sheriff's Office has learned from managing past emergencies; 4) The Mississippi DOC: Prepared to Meet the Responsibility of Emergency Response about lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina; 5) Emergency Preparedness: Coaching the Fundamentals about effective approaches to developing a comprehensive emergency preparedness program; and 6) Collaboration in Emergency Preparedness and Management about the need for correctional agencies to collaborate with State and local partners in emergency planning, training, and exercises. This issues also features seven News and Views articles: 1) ACA Congratulates Newly Certified and Recertified Professionals which honors the list of newly certified professionals; 2) E.R. Cass Award which advertises the nomination criteria for ACA's highest award; 3) Oklahoma DOC Opens Its Doors to the Public With New Leadership Academy that provides citizens with a 9-week session of classes and facility tours to give citizens an insider's view of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (DOC); 4) Prison Capacity: More Complex than Bed Count which discusses the four main components of prison capacity; 5) Corrections Today Editorial Guidelines which describes to members on how to submit articles for publication; 6) Corrections Today 2012 Editorial Calendar which lists each month's publication theme and submission deadline; 7) ACA Celebrates Another Award-Winning Year which announces that ACA's magazine has been recognized for the 14th consecutive year. Fifteen regular departments are also included.
