Annotation: Feature articles in this issue profile Phil Keith, who has been instrumental in expanding AMBER Alert; how social media has had a key role in the Quebec (Canada) AMBER Alert program, and the features of the AMBER Alert program in Indian Country.
Abstract: “Profile: Phil Keith” describes his work in expanding AMBER Alert to be consistent and effective in every U.S. State, Territory, and the District of Columbia within 2 years. Prior to this effort, many States and communities had a child abduction alert system, but the programs varied in size, criteria, and capability. “On the Front Lines: Social Media Plays Critical Role in Quebec AMBER Alert” presents a case study of how AMBER Alert’s inclusion of social media in Quebec’s system led to the identification of the abductor of a new-born infant from a hospital and the recovery of the infant. “AMBER Alert in Indian Country” describes the work of Hedi Bogda - a tribal prosecutor, tribal judge, and enrolled member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. The AMBER Alert initiative in Indian Country asked her to lead the effort to train prosecutors, judges, and law enforcement officers in the management of child-abduction cases in Indian Country. This issue’s section on AMBER Alert International describes efforts in Canada and Mexico.
