The distinctive characteristics of the model to be implemented by the five sites are the use of traditional components of juvenile drug courts implemented in accordance with the logistical model of the Reclaiming Futures (RF) initiative. This model envisions improved implementation and outcomes of these JDCs, whose operation is patterned after the RF initiative. The RF emphasizes initial screening and assessment, service coordination, initiation, engagement, and transition after program completion. The evaluation model focused on data collection and analysis pertinent to performance, efficiencies, and cost effectiveness; improvement in the empirical knowledge base for the JDC/RF model; the findings of case studies; and the potential for replication at other sites. Data are provided on the number and characteristics of juveniles served by the programs, as well as the status of each and all programs at the time of the evaluation. Regarding program status (positive or negative) the evaluation assigned a "positive status" to 69 percent of the youth who participated in JDC/RF courts. For all the five sites, an average of 20 percent of youth participants were assigned a negative status, and the status of 11 percent of the youth was unknown. 6 tables
