STEP-BY-GUIDE TO THE DESIGN OF SIMPLE PERMANENT WATCH ASSIGNMENT SCHEDULES (OFFICERS WORKING THE SAME HOURS ON ALL WORK DAYS, AND NOT PERIODICALLY ROTATING TO OTHER WORKING HOURS).
Abstract
THE PROCEDURE DESCRIBED IS MOST EASILY APPLIED TO SCHEDULES INVOLVING EIGHT OFFICERS OR LESS, THE DESIGN PROCEDURE PRODUCES SCHEDULES WHOSE ROTATION PERIOD, IN WEEKS, IS EQUAL TO THE NUMBER OF OFFICERS IN THE UNIT BEING SCHEDULED, E.G., FOR AN EIGHT-MAN UNIT THE BASIC SCHEDULE WOULD REPEAT ITSELF EVERY EIGHT WEEKS. IN ORDER TO MAKE THE DESIGN PROCEDURE EASIER TO UNDERSTAND, THE STEP-BY-STEP SOLUTION TO A SAMPLE PROBLEM IS PRESENTED ON THE LEFT HAND PAGES, WHILE THE BASIC PROCEDURE AND WORK SPACE FOR THE WORKSHOP PROBLEM ARE PRESENTED ON THE RIGHT HAND PAGES.
