RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF 21 WISCONSIN LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES TO DETERMINE WHICH TYPE OF SHIFT SCHEDULES ARE CURRENTLY BEING EMPLOYED AND WHAT PREFERENCE OFFICERS HAVE TOWARD THEIR WORK SCHEDULES.
Abstract
THE SURVEY INCLUDED QUESTIONS ON TYPE OF SHIFT WORKED, THE EFFECTS OF SHIFT WORKED ON PERSONAL FACTORS, AND THE EFFECT OF SHIFT WORKED ON JOB-RELATED FACTORS. WHEN QUESTIONED AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THEY WERE BASICALLY SATISFIED WITH THEIR SHIFT SCHEDULES, 64 PERCENT RESPONDED 'YES'; 36 PERCENT SAID 'NO'. SURVEY RESULTS INDICATED THAT PERMANENT SHIFT SCHEDULES USED IN LAW ENFORCEMENT ARE THE MOST PREFERRED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS. ALTHOUGH MOST OFFICERS SURVEYED WOULD PREFER TO WORK DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS, THEY STILL WOULD PREFER PERMANENT SHIFTS, EVEN AFTERNOONS AND NIGHTS, AS COMPARED TO ROTATING SHIFTS.
