STATISTICAL STUDY OF RECIDIVISM BY 192 INDIVIDUALS MADE TEN YEARS AFTER THEIR RELEASE FROM DANISH STATE PRISONS.
Abstract
STATISTICS INCLUDE AGE, PLACE OF ORIGIN, EDUCATION, OCCUPATIONAL TRAINING, TYPES OF OFFENSES COMMITTED AND MARITAL STATUS. ALSO INCLUDED IS STATISTICAL INFORMATION ON OFFENSES COMMITTED AFTER RELEASE, SENTENCES IMPOSED ON RECIDIVISTS, AND AGE AND SOCIAL STATUS OF THOSE WHO BECAME RECIDIVISTS. THE STUDY SHOWED THAT ABOUT HALF OF THOSE RELEASED IN 1965 RECEIVED ANOTHER SENTENCE MORE SERIOUS THAN A FINE WITHIN FIVE YEARS AND THAT 70 PERCENT OF THEM HAD BEEN CHARGED WITH A NEW OFFENSE ONCE WITHIN THAT PERIOD. ALSO, 84 OF THEM WERE SENTENCED AND RETURNED TO CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS. IN 50 PERCENT OF THE CASES, THIS HAPPENED WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR AFTER RELEASE. --IN DANISH
