THE ELECTRET CABLE IS A LOW-COST, COMMERCIALLY-PRODUCED TRANSDUCER DESIGNED FOR USE IN CONJUNCTION WITH A FENCE PROTECTION SYSTEM.
Abstract
THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THE DEVELOPMENT EFFORT CURRENTLY UNDERWAY TO IMPLEMENT ANOTHER PERIMETER SYSTEM USING THE SAME TRANSDUCER CABLE IN A BURIED MODE TO DETECT THE SEISMIC/PRESSURE SIGNATURE OF THE INTRUDER. PARTICULAR ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO THE TECHNIQUES USED TO DEVELOP A PROCESSOR TO RECOGNIZE INTRUDER SIGNATURES WHILE REJECTING THOSE SIGNALS CAUSED BY POTENTIAL FALSE ALARM SOURCES. THE CABLE TRANSDUCTION MECHANISM IS REVIEWED, AND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF TYPICAL INTRUSION/FALSE ALARM SIGNALS ARE PRESENTED. DATA COLLECTION EFFORTS AND SIGNAL PROCESSING PROCEDURES LEADING TO THE DESIGN OF A PROCESSOR ARE DESCRIBED WITH EMPHASIS BEING PLACED ON THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PATTERN RECOGNITION ALGORITHMS USED TO SELECT MEASUREMENTS, DEFINE THE STRUCTURE OF THE MEASUREMENT WEIGHTING CIRCUITRY, AND PREDICT SYSTEM PERFORMANCE. FINALLY, THE STRUCTURE OF THE BREADBOARD SYSTEM IS DISCUSSED, AND THE RESULTS OF EARLY TESTING ARE GIVEN. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
