EIGHTY YOUTHS, WHO HAD RECIDIVATED AT LEAST FIVE TIMES IN THE FIVE YEARS AFTER THEIR FIRST OFFENSE, ARE THE SUBJECTS OF THIS STUDY OF RECIDIVISTS' PERSONALITY AND DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS.
Abstract
THESE RECIDIVIST YOUTHS WERE DIVIDED INTO TWO GROUPS. THE FORMER WAS COMPRISED OF THOSE WHO IN THE TWO YEARS SUBSEQUENT TO THE FIVE-YEAR QUALIFICATION PERIOD, HAD HAD AT LEAST TWO ADDITIONAL COURT APPEARANCES, ONE OF WHICH RESULTING IN A TERM OF IMPRISONMENT. THE LATTER GROUP OF BOYS EITHER COMMITTED NO NEW OFFENSES, OR THE ONES THEY DID COMMIT WERE OF A MINOR NATURE. FACTORS THAT WERE EXAMINED INCLUDE THE OFFENDER'S AREA OF RESIDENCE, POLICE INVOLVEMENT WITH OFFENDER'S SIBLINGS, POLICE CHARACTERIZATIONS OF OFFENDER'S PERSONALITY, AND TYPE OF OFFENSE COMMITTED.
