PUNITIVE CAPTIVITY IS A CONDITION FOUND IN A TOTAL CONTROL INSTITUTION WHERE TO A SIGNIFICANT EXTENT THE CAPTIVES ARE SUBJECTED TO TOTALITARIANISM, DEPRIVATION, AND THE ABUSE OF THEIR HUMAN RESOURCES.
Abstract
THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE USE OF A MULTIPLE SCALE PROFILE OR PUNITIVE CAPTIVITY ANALYSIS SCALE FOR RESEARCH EVALUATING TYPES OF TOTAL CONTROL INSTITUTIONS, SUCH AS PRISONS. ALSO DISCUSSED IS THE MULTIPLE METHOD APPROACH USED BY THE AUTHOR IN A LIMITED ADMINISTRATION OF THE PUNITIVE CAPTIVITY ANALYSIS SCALE TO FEDERAL PRISONERS. THIS APPROACH INVOLVED A SURVEY DESIGN, INTERPRETIVE ANALYSIS, PARTICIPANT OBSERVATION, AND INSTRUCTURED INTERVIEWING. A LIST OF REFERENCES IS INCLUDED.
