THIS STUDY WAS CONDUCTED FOR THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY (ME) SHERIFF'S OFFICE, WHOSE 20 SWORN POLICE SERVE 190,000 PERSONS ON 853 SQUARE MILES, AND FOR THE PORTLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT, WHOSE 167 SWORN POLICE SERVE 66,000 PERSONS.
Abstract
PORTLAND (ME) IS 22 SQUARE MILES IN AREA. THE REPORT IS DATED APRIL, 1976. AFTER REVIEWING THE RECORD SYSTEMS OF BOTH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE, THE CONSULTANT RECOMMENDED THAT THE TWO SYSTEMS BE CONSOLIDATED, WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO BE THE RECORD REPOSITORY.
