DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURES AND OUTCOMES OF INVOLVING UNDERGRADUATES IN SERVICE ROLES IN CORRECTIONAL SETTINGS.
Abstract
THE ARTICLE IS BASED ON THE EXPERIENCES OF PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS FROM ST PATRICK'S COLLEGE (OTTAWA, CANADA) WORKING AT THE RIDEAU CORRECTIONAL CENTRE (BURRITTS RAPIDS, CANADA). THE PROGRAM WAS ESTABLISHED FOR TWO COMPLEMENTARY PURPOSES: OPENING UP THE COMMUNITY SERVICE AND FIELD COMPONENTS OF A DEVELOPMENT OF A DEVELOPING UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM IN COMMUNITY PSYCHOLOGY AND THE EXPANSION OF SERVICES WITHIN TWO MINIMUM SECURITY CORRECTIONAL CENTERS. A VARIETY OF ROLES FOR UNDERGRADUATES TO FULFILL IN CORRECTIONAL SERVICES IS OUTLINED. SELECTION, PRETRAINING, AND DEGREE OF SUPERVISION ARE DESCRIBED FOR EACH ROLE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
