ARTICLE DEMONSTRATING A SET OF STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES WHICH CAN BE USED TO ASSESS VARIATIONS IN DELINQUENCY OFFENSES, BASED ON OBSERVATIONS OF DATA ON SERIOUS OFFENSES COMMITTED BY JUVENILES IN FULTON COUNTY (GA).
Abstract
THE SUBJECTS ARE JUVENILES CONVICTED OF AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, AGGRAVATED BATTERY, BURGLARY, HOMICIDE, RAPE, AND ROBBERY OVER A 29-MONTH PERIOD. THREE DIFFERENT ANALYSES OF THE DATA WERE PERFORMED TO DETERMINE THE PATTERN OF THESE OFFENSES. THE FIRST ANALYSIS CONSISTED OF A SIMPLE LINEAR REGRESSION. THE SECOND EMPLOYED ADAPTIVE SMOOTHING. THE THIRD ANALYSIS INVOLVED MULTIPLE STEPWISE REGRESSION WITH SINE-COSINE PAIRS. A STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT SINUSOIDAL PATTERN WAS OBSERVED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
