THIS REPORT COMPILES AND INTERPRETS STATEWIDE INDEX CRIME DATA FOR 1968-1973 AND PROVIDES ANALYSES OF LOCAL CRIME PATTERNS IN AN EFFORT TO EXAMINE THE NATURE, GROWTH, AND DISTRIBUTION OF CRIME IN MASSACHUSETTS.
Abstract
THE STATISTICS USED IN THIS REPORT ARE DRAWN LARGELY FROM THE FBI UNIFORM CRIME REPORTS. THE FIRST PART PROVIDES A PICTURE OF GENERAL CRIME TRENDS IN MASSACHUSETTS SINCE 1968 AND PLACES THEM IN COMPARISON WITH NATIONAL TRENDS. THE REVERSAL OF A 1972 DECLINE IN PROPERTY CRIMES IS NOTED. MORE SPECIFIC ANALYSES FOLLOW THAT FOCUS ON LOCAL DATA DESCRIPTIVE OF CRIME PATTERNS WITHIN THE STATE, INCLUDING STUDY OF PLANNING REGIONS IN THE METROPOLITAN BOSTON AREA. THE SECOND MAJOR PART OF THE REPORT CONTAINS MAPS OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF REPORTED CRIME IN THE STATE. AN ALPHABETICAL LIST OF ALL COMMUNITIES INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT CONTAINS THE CRIME AND DEMOGRAPHIC DATA FOR EACH CITY OR TOWN. AN APPENDIX LISTS CRIMES REPORTED TO THE FBI AND THEIR DEFINITIONS.
