REPORT ON A TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE STUDY OF ORGANIZATIONAL AND MANAGEMENT ISSUES CONFRONTING ALASKA'S DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, CONCENTRATING ON PROPER MANPOWER UTILIZATION.
Abstract
THE SIX HUNDRED MAN DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY PROVIDES LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES TO A POPULATION OF APPROXIMATELY 400,000 SPREAD OVER A 586,000 SQUARE MILE AREA. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WAS RENDERED THROUGH INTERVIEWS WITH DEPARTMENTAL PERSONNEL, ON-SITE OBSERVATIONS, AND VISITS TO SOME OF THE DEPARTMENT'S OUT-STATIONS BETWEEN JUNE 21 AND 30, 1976. RECOMMENDATIONS BASED ON OBSERVATION OF CURRENT ACTIVITIES ARE SET FORTH IN THE AREAS OF ORGANIZATION, COORDINATION, STAFFING AND PERSONNEL, SUPPORTIVE SERVICES, AND ENFORCEMENT AND PREVENTION. A LIST OF INDIVIDUALS INTERVIEWED DURING THE STUDY IS APPENDED.
