DESCRIPTION OF A CLOSED PSYCHIATRIC CENTRE FOR ABOUT FIFTY MENTALLY DISTURBED OFFENDERS AGED 18 YEARS AND OVER FOR THE FRENCH-SPEAKING JURISDICTIONS OF SWITZERLAND.
Abstract
THIS CENTRE WILL BE RUN ALONG THE LINES OF A SOCIO-THERAPEUTIC INSTITUTION PLACED UNDER MEDICAL DIRECTION. IT WILL BE LOCATED NEXT TO THE PRISON TO FACILITATE CONTACTS WITH THE LATTER'S MEDICAL UNIT AND ADMINISTRATION. ITS BUILDINGS AND PROGRAMME MUST COMBINE MEASURES ENABLING SECURITY, TREATMENT, PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND SOCIO-CULTURAL ACTIVITIES. PSYCHODYNAMIC TECHNIQUES AND MODELS OF COMMUNITY THERAPY PARTICIPATION IN DECISION-MAKING, EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION HAVE INSPIRED THIS CENTRE. CRITERIA OF ADMISSION OF PATIENTS ARE DISCUSSED: IN PARTICULAR, AGREEMENT OF BOTH PATIENT AND MEDICAL BOARD ARE NECESSARY. THE JUDICIARY OR ADMINISTRATIVE AUTHORITIES WILL DECIDE ON PERMISSIONS OF LEAVE AS WELL AS ON LIBERATION. PATIENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO RETURN TO THE CENTRE IF THEY DESIRE, FOR INSTANCE IF THEY FEAR A RELAPSE.
