GUIDELINES FOR ORGANIZATION SUPERVISORS ARE PROVIDED ON THE ROLE OF THE SUPERVISOR, THE ROLE OF THE UNION STEWARD, GRIEVANCE HANDLING, AND EMPLOYEE RELATIONS.
Abstract
STRESSING THE IMPORTANCE OF EFFECTIVE SUPERVISOR-EMPLOYEE RELATIONSHIPS, THE AUTHORS PRESENT SEVERAL GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SUPERVISORY BEHAVIOR. THEY STATE, FOR EXAMPLE, THAT THE SUPERVISOR MUST HELP HIS EMPLOYEES, UNDERSTAND HIS MEN, KNOW THE ORGANIZATION RULES, AND APPLY ALL RULES UNIFORMLY. GENERAL GUIDELINES ON THE UNION STEWARD AND METHODS OF VIEWING THE STEWARD'S ROLE ARE THEN LISTED. POINTERS ON HOW TO ESTABLISH A FAVORABLE CLIMATE WITH UNION EMPLOYEES ARE PROVIDED AS WELL. WITH RESPECT TO THE HANDLING OF EMPLOYEE GRIEVANCES, THIS ARTICLE PROVIDES INFORMATION ON THE SPECIFIC GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED BY THE SUPERVISOR, AND THE PROPER ACTIVITIES AND ATTITUDES OF THE SUPERVISOR WHEN WHEN HANDLING UNION GRIEVANCES. A CHECKLIST FOR GRIEVANCE HANDLING IS INCLUDED.
