Abstract
THE CONSULTANT CONDUCTED A SURVEY IN MARCH 1973 TO GAIN INSIGHT INTO THE PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES THEN ALREADY IN PROGRESS OR BEING PLANNED IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY AREAS OF NEED AND BE ABLE TO MAKE VALID RECOMMENDATIONS BASED ON EXISTING CONDITIONS. MUCH OF THE DATA USED CONCERNED TRAINING NEEDS AND RELATED ITEMS IN THE STATE'S LARGER POLICE DEPARTMENTS. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE CURRENT EFFORTS WERE INADEQUATE AND UNCOORDINATED. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE MISSISSIPPI DIVISION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE PREPARE A REQUEST FOR FEDERAL FUNDING TO SPONSOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MASTER PLAN FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT. A DRAFT PROPOSAL IS INCLUDED.
