TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED IN ASSESSING BOTH THE NATURE AND IMPLEMENTATION APPROACH FOR A PROPOSED COMPUTERIZED POLICE INFORMATION SYSTEM IN ERIE (PA) ACCORDING TO PRELIMINARY SPECIFICATIONS.
Abstract
DURING THE ON-SITE VISIT IN JULY 1973, THE CONSULTANT ATTENDED A MEETING AT WHICH NORTHWEST REGIONAL PLANNERS FOR THE PENNSYLVANIA GOVERNOR'S JUSTICE COMMISSION PRESENTED THEIR IDEAS ON FEASIBILITY AND FUNDING SOURCES FOR THE PROJECT AND INTERVIEWED THE PLANNERS AND THREE COMPUTER SALES REPRESENTATIVES. PROBLEMS AND DEFICIENCIES OF THE CURRENT ERIE POLICE DEPARTMENT RECORDS SYSTEM WERE ANALYZED AND ALTERNATIVES SUGGESTED. SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS, PHILOSOPHY, AND FUTURE DEVELOPMENT ARE OUTLINED. THE GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS DRAWN UP BY THE REGIONAL PLANNERS ARE APPENDED.
