THIS ARTICLE EXPLORES THE AVOIDANCE OF SEVERANCE THROUGH THE USE OF SIMULTANEOUS JURIES IN CASES WHERE ONE DEFENDANT HAS MADE A CONFESSION WHICH IMPLICATES ANOTHER DEFENDANT.
Abstract
THIS SOLUTION TO THE COST, TIME, AND WITNESS PROBLEMS OF TWO SEPARATE TRIALS WAS TRIED IN THE INSTANT CASE OF BRUTON V. UNITED STATES (1968) IN A LOS ANGELES SUPERIOR COURT. THE BACKGROUND OF THIS CASE IS DISCUSSED ALONG WITH THE JURY SELECTION AND TRIAL PROCEDURES NECESSITATED BY A DOUBLE JURY TRIAL.
