A NEWSLETTER ARTICLE WHICH BRIEFLY REVIEWS THE RESULTS OF A NATIONWIDE SURVEY OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS UNDERTAKEN TO DETERMINE TRENDS IN VANDALISM COSTS, VANDALISM INCIDENTS, AND PREVENTION METHODS.
Abstract
AMONG THE TRENDS NOTED WERE A DECLINE IN VANDALISM COSTS IN LARGER URBAN DISTRICTS, INCREASES IN THEFTS AND PROPERTY DESTRUCTION, A DECREASE IN LOSSES DUE TO FIRES, AND INCREASES IN THE INCIDENCE AND COSTS OF GLASS BREAKAGE. IT WAS ALSO FOUND THAT THE MOST COMMON PREVENTIVE MEASURE WAS EMPLOYMENT OF GUARDS, FOLLOWED BY SPECIAL LIGHTING AND USE OF INTRUSION ALARMS.
