Abstract
THE ECONOMIC COSTS OF CRIME TO SOCIETY THROUGH CRIME-INDUCED PURCHASES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT GOODS AND SERVICES, CRIMES DESTRUCTIVE OF PERSONS AND PROPERTY, CRIMES INVOLVING INVOLUNTARY PROPERTY TRANSFERS, AND VICTIMLESS CRIMES ARE EXAMINED. THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE COST OF CRIME AMONG VICTIMS, TAXPAYERS, AND CRIMINALS IN ILLINOIS IS ANALYZED. STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM EXPENDITURES ARE ESTIMATED.
