Abstract
THIS EVALUATION COVERS THE TREATMENT OF 201 CLIENTS FORMALLY ADMITTED TO SHELTER HOUSE DURING ITS FIRST YEAR OF OPERATION, NOVEMBER 1, 1973 TO OCTOBER 31, 1974. THE SCOPE OF THE EVALUATION WAS TO INCLUDE THE IMPACT OF TREATMENT ON SHELTER HOUSE CLIENTS AS WELL AS INTRA- AND INTER-ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS. INFORMATION WAS GATHERED FROM CLIENT FILES AND FROM INTERVIEWS CONDUCTED WITH FORMER CLIENTS. FINDINGS INDICATE THAT 66 PERCENT OF SHELTER HOUSE'S CLIENTS IMPROVED DURING THEIR PERIOD OF CONTACT WHILE 31 PERCENT REMAIN ABOUT THE SAME AND 3 PERCENT GET WORSE. MOST FORMER CLIENTS INTERVIEWED EXPRESSED A HIGHLY FAVORABLE ATTITUDE TOWARD SERVICES RECEIVED AND THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SHELTER HOUSE AND OTHER COMMUNITY AGENCIES WERE STRONG AND POSITIVE. RECOMMENDATIONS WERE MADE IN SEVERAL AREAS, INCLUDING RECORD KEEPING PROCEDURES AND INTERNAL STRUCTURE AND COMMUNICATION. CURRENT GOAL STATEMENTS, THE MASTER CODE FOR CLIENT FILE DATA, AND PROGRAM TREATMENT PROCEDURES ARE APPENDED.
