REPORT EXAMINES STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF A COMMUNITY BASED INTENSIVE SERVICE DELIVERY PROGRAM FOR ADJUDICATED JUVENILES BETWEEN THE AGES OF 14 AND 17.
Abstract
THE TREATMENT APPROACH OF PROJECT NEW PRIDE (PNP) CENTERS AROUND ITS EDUCATIONAL SERVICES WHICH INCLUDE INTENSIVE, INDIVIDUAL TUTORING AND REMEDIATION OF LEARNING DISABILITIES IN THE PROJECT'S TWO ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS. JUVENILES ARE REFERRED TO THE PROJECT THROUGH DENVER'S PROBATION DEPARTMENT. ONLY THOSE YOUTHS WITH A RECORD OF AT LEAST TWO PRIOR CONVICTIONS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR PNP. PROJECT STRENGTHS INCLUDE ITS PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED, FLEXIBLE STAFF; ITS COMMITMENT TO A WIDE RANGE OF SERVICES; ITS WELL-ORGANIZED VOLUNTEER PROGRAM; AND ITS GOOD WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COURTS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, AND LOCAL AGENCIES. WEAKNESSES OF THE PROGRAM INCLUDE ITS HIGH RATIO OF STAFF TO CLIENTS, ITS RELATIVE INFLEXIBILITY OF PROJECT OPERATIONS, AND ITS DIFFICULTY IN COLLECTING EVALUATIVE DATA....BS
