Abstract
TWO OKLAHOMA POLICE CHIEFS STATE THAT EVEN THOUGH THE STATE CRIME RATE HAS JUMPED 240 PERCENT FROM 1969 TO 1974, LEAA-FUNDED PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN EFFECTIVE IN ITS REDUCTION. THESE CLAIMS ARE DISPUTED AND SUPPORTED BY THREE PANELISTS WHO DEBATED THE VIRTUES OF LEAA. THEY AGREE THAT THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE EXPERIMENTATION AND PLANNING ASPECTS OF LEAA HAVE BEEN A BENEFIT.
