A REPORT OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE LEAA AND THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, EDUCATION, AND WELFARE (HEW) IN PROVIDING PROGRAMS TO REDUCE CRIME AND VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS.
Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THE REPORT IS TO PERMIT THE READER TO SEE THE LOGIC OF THE FEDERAL EFFORT AND THE REASONS FOR THE DIVISION OF LABOR BETWEEN LEAA AND HEW. THE AUTHOR PRESENTS EDITED REPORTS OF FEDERAL OFFICIALS WHO DISCUSS MOTIVATIONS FOR THE PROGRAMS, SURVEYS OF THE NATURE AND EXTENT OF THE SCHOOL CRIME PROBLEMS, SPECIALIZED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, PROGRAM RESEARCH AND EVALUATIONS, AND THE TRAINING OF 'SCHOOL TEAMS' TO DEVELOP LOCAL PREVENTIVE STRATEGIES.
