ARTICLE DESCRIBES ACQUISITION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN AUTOMATED POLICE DISPATCH SYSTEM IN NORTH LAS VEGAS.
Abstract
THE DEPARTMENT OBTAINED A TAMPS (TIME ACCOUNTING, MANAGEMENT, AND POLICE STATISTICS) SYSTEM THAT WAS FULLY OPERATIONAL BY MAY 1975. IT OPERATES ON TWIN CENTRAL PROCESSING UNITS, LINKED TO ONE ANOTHER AND ENABLING EACH DISPATCHER TO TRANSFER DATA INSTANTLY TO THE OTHER. IN ADDITION TO RECORDING COMPLAINTS AND DISPATCHING PATROL UNITS, THE SYSTEM FORMS THE BASIS OF THE AUTOMATED LOGS AND RECORDS. A MAJOR PROBLEM IN IMPLEMENTING THE SYSTEM WAS ENTRENCHMENT WITH OLD OPERATIONS AND MANUAL PROCEDURES WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT....BS
