A REVIEW OF THE PROGRAM WHICH HAS BEEN IN OPERATION SINCE NOVEMBER 1975 AS A COMPONENT OF THE PRETRIAL DIVISION, THE PROBATION DEPARTMENT, AND THE BERKELEY OWN RECOGNIZANCE PROJECT.
Abstract
THE EVALUATORS MADE FINDINGS AND PRESENTED RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: SUPERVISED RELEASE PROGRAM GOALS; SERVICES TO THE COURT; THE DEPUTY PROBATION OFFICER'S AUTHORITY TO VETO A SUPERVISED RELEASE RECOMMENDATION BEFORE IT REACHES THE COURT; COST SAVINGS; EMPLOYMENT STATUS OF SUPERVISED RELEASE DEFENDANTS; DEFENDANT EVALUATION CRITERIA; USE OF SUMMARY INFORMATION IN PRESENTENCE REPORTS; AND FAILURE TO APPEAR CASES. A GENERAL RECOMMENDATION THAT THE SUPERVISED RELEASE PROGRAM BE INSTITUTED ONLY WHEN THE DEFENDANT COULD NOT BE RELEASED BY OTHER MEANS WAS EMPHASIZED.
