BRITISH SPEAKER OUTLINES SOME OF THE CONSIDERATIONS TO BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT IN UNDERSTANDNG THE POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS ISSUE.
Abstract
THE SPEAKER, A LONDON POLICE OFFICIAL, POINTS OUT THE DIFFERENCE IN POLICE RISKS IN BRITAIN AND IN THE UNITED STATES. HE ALSO POINTS OUT THE DIFFERENCES IN ATTITUDE BETWEEN BRITISH AND AMERICAN POLICE OFFICERS. THERE IS LESS OF A DANGER TO BRITISH POLICE OFFICERS THAN TO AMERICANS. BRITAIN HAS HAD TO COPE WITH MINORITIES AND IMMIGRANTS FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME THAN THE U.S. HAS, AND THIS HAS HELPED TO FACILITATE POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS IN BRITAIN.
