THIS ARTICLE FOCUSES ON THE INCREASING ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, BOTH AS PRACTITIONERS AND AS OFFENDERS, AND EMPHASIZES THAT WOMEN MUST BE TREATED EQUALLY IN ALL ASPECTS OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE.
Abstract
ALTHOUGH FORMERLY BARRED FROM THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM BY SOCIAL CONVENTIONS AND SOCIAL MISCONCEPTIONS, THE AUTHOR OBSERVES THAT WOMEN ARE NOW PLAYING AN INCREASING ROLE IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AS POLICE OFFICERS, LAWYERS, WITNESSES, AND JURORS. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS INVOLVEMENT IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE IS ALSO EXTENDED TO CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR. AS WOMEN GAIN INCREASING RESPONSIBILITY AND ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE, THEY, LIKE MEN, ARE TURNING TO SERIOUS, ECONOMICALLY-ORIENTED CRIME. SINCE THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IS LARGELY UNPREPARED FOR THIS INFLUX OF FEMALE OFFENDERS, THE AUTHOR NOTES THAT IMPROVEMENTS IN THE ENTIRE CRIMINAL JUSTICE RESPONSE TO WOMEN ARE NECESSARY....DMC
