THIS IS AN EVALUATION OF A FOUR-YEAR PROGRAM OF THE ASSOCIATION OF JUNIOR LEAGUES, INC., WHICH WAS DESIGNED TO ENABLE MEMBER LEAGUES TO INCREASE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.
Abstract
THIS SUMMATIVE EVALUATION OF THE IMPACT PROJECT OF THE ASSOCIATION OF JUNIOR LEAGUES WAS CONDUCTED BY THE NATIONAL INFORMATION CENTER ON VOLUNTEERISM (NICOV) DURING THE PERIOD OF FEBRUARY 1975 TO MARCH 1977. THE MAIN SOURCES OF EVIDENCE FOR THIS STUDY WERE: BASIC STATISTICAL DATA ON ALL JUNIOR LEAGUES IN THE UNITED STATES, AND INTENSIVE DATA FROM A MAIL SURVEY OF A RANDOM SAMPLE OF 31 LEAGUES, PLUS SITE VISITS TO A SAMPLE OF SIX JUNIOR LEAGUE PROGRAMS. INDICATIONS OF THE POSITIVE EFFECT OF IMPACT ARE: THE MAIN STIMULUS EVENTS OF IMPACT WERE ASSOCIATED WITH A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN JUNIOR LEAGUE CRIMINAL JUSTICE RELATED PROJECT AND VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY; AND THE EFFECTS OF THE LEAGUE PROGRAMS ON CLIENTS, VOLUNTEERS, HOST AGENCIES, AND COMMUNTIES WERE RATED AS POSITIVE BY SITE VISITS AND MAIL SURVEY PARTICIPANTS.
