THIS PUBLICATION CONSTITUTES THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE SEMINAR ON DATA PROTECTION AND PRIVACY HELD AT OECD FROM JUNE 24-26, 1974.
Abstract
THE INTIATIVE TO HOLD THE DEMINAR CAME FROM THE DATA BANK PANEL CREATED BY THE OCED COMPUTER UTILIZATION GROUP IN ORDER TO STUDY POLICY ISSUES ARISING FROM THE WIDESPREAD USE OF COMPUTERIZED DATA BANKS. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE SEMINAR WAS TO HIGHLIGHT A RAGE OF POLICY OPTIONS RELATING TO DATA PROTECTION AND PRIVACY AT A TIME WHEN INTENSIVE EFFORTS WERE BEING MADE IN OCED MEMBER COUNTRIES WITH A VIEW TO PREPARING APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION. THE TWENTY-THREE BACKGROUND REPORTS PRESENTED COVER REGULATORY INSTRUMENTS FOR DATA PROTECTION, THE PERSONAL IDENTIFIER ISSUE AND PRIVACY, RIGHT OF CITIZEN ACCESS TO THEIR FILE, RULES FOR TRANSBORDER DATA FLOWS, AND THE COSTS OF DATA SECURITY. A LIST OF SEMINAR PARTICIPANTS, BY COUNTRY IS ALSO INCLUDED.
