THE FINDINGS OF A 5-MONTH STUDY OF IMMEDIATE AND LONG-TERM JUVENILE SERVICE NEEDS, PROBLEMS, RESOURCES, AND ALTERNATIVES IN TWO MICHIGAN COUNTIES ARE REPORTED.
Abstract
THE STUDY, WHICH WAS CONDUCTED BY A CONSULTANT, INVOLVED INTERVIEWS WITH AGENCY PERSONNEL, SURVEYS OF AGENCIES INVOLVED INPROVIDING SERVICES TO JUVENILES IN ALLEGAN AND OTTAWA COUNTIES, ANALYSES OF 846 JUVENILE CASE FILES FROM THE PRIMARY AGENCIES IN EACH COUNTY (JUVENILE COURT, COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH, SOCIAL SERVICES, INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL DISTRICT), AND EXPLORATION OF ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS TO IDENTIFIED PROBLEMS. GENERAL FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE SUMMARIZED RELATIVE TO CONTINUATION OF THE TASK THAT WAS THE CATALYST FOR THE NEEDS ASSESSMENT, INTERAGENCY COMMUNICATION, SERVICES TO RUNAWAYS, PREVENTION PROGRAMMING, RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITIES FOR ADOLESCEMTS. BIRTH CONTROL SERVICES FOR YOUTHS, YOUTH EMPLOYMENT, CONSOLIDATION OF HOTLINES, RECREATION, YOUTH INPUT, DATA COLLECTION AND RETRIEVAL, AND YOUTH SERVICE COORDINATING MODELS.
