THIS DIRECTORY OF 137 INFORMATION RESOURCE AGENCIES WAS COMPILED BY NCJRS IN AN EFFORT TO FOSTER THE EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION AND TO CREATE CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION AMONG PARTIES INTERESTED IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE FIELD.
Abstract
THIS EDITION OF THE DIRECTORY UPDATES THE FIRST EDITION, WHICH WAS COMPILED IN 1976 FROM DATA GATHERED THROUGH QUESTIONNAIRES SENT TO 2,000 AGENCIES AND RESEARCH ORGANIZATIONS. THE UPDATE WAS BASED ON A SURVEY OF APPROXIMATELY 300 CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES CONDUCTED IN 1977-1978. QUESTIONNAIRES WERE MAILED TO ALL THE AGENCIES LISTED IN THE FIRST EDITION AS WELL AS TO OTHER AGENCIES IDENTIFIED BY NCJRS STAFF. THE AGENCIES INCLUDE SUCH INFORMATION RESOURCES AS COMPUTERIZED LITERATURE SEARCH SERVICES, INTERLIBRARY LOAN PROGRAMS, REFERENCE SERVICES, AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROFESSIONALS. THE ORGANIZATIONS ARE LISTED IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER; A SUBJECT INDEX IS PROVIDED. A UNIFORM SELECTION OF INFORMATION IS PROVIDED FOR EACH ENTRY, INCLUDING ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER, THE YEAR OF ITS FOUNDING, THE PARENT OR SPONSORING AGENCY, THE DIRECTOR, THE NUMBER OF PROFESSIONAL AND SUPPORT EMPLOYEES, THE NAME OF THE CONTACT PERSON, AREA OF ACTIVITY (POLICE, COURTS, CORRECTIONS, JUVENILE JUSTICE, EVALUATION, COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION, AND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY), COSTS, USER RESTRICTIONS, OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES, SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE USER, INFORMATION RESOURCES, AND PUBLICATIONS.
