Abstract
THE FINAL VERSION OF THE DOCUMENT IS TO PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION OF PROJECTS AND PUBLICATIONS RELEVANT TO LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL SELECTION, TRAINING, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, AND PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT. THE PRELIMINARY DRAFT OPENS WITH A 40-PAGE SELECTED BIBLIOGRAPHY ON JOB TASK ANALYSIS. MANY OF THE APPROXIMATELY 600 JOURNAL ARTICLES, BOOKS AND GOVERNMENT REPORTS CITED ARE INCLUDED IN THE NCJRS COLLECTION. INSTRUCTIONS FOR OBTAINING ABSTRACTS OF THESE DOCUMENTS, AS WELL AS FOR OBTAINING LOAN MATERIALS THROUGH INTERLIBRARY LOAN, ARE INCLUDED. EXCERPTS FROM A 1967 TASK FORCE REPORT ON POLICE PREPARED BY THE PRESIDENT'S COMMISSION ON LAW ENFORCEMENT AND THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE TOUCH ON DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES IN POLICE PERSONNEL SELECTION, RECRUITMENT, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, AND MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR SELECTION, SCREENING, AND TRAINING. AN EXCERPT FROM THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE STANDARDS AND GOALS REPORT ON POLICE DISCUSSES POLICE TRAINING AND SETS FORTH STANDARDS RELATIVE TO STATE LEGISLATION AND FISCAL ASSISTANCE FOR POLICE TRAINING, TRAINING PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, PREPARATORY TRAINING, INSERVICE TRAINING, AND INSTRUCTION QUALITY CONTROL. ALSO INCLUDED IS THE INTRODUCTORY CHAPTER OF A REPORT ON PROJECT STAR, A 1974 CALIFORNIA RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT EFFORT INVOLVING THE IDENTIFICATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE ROLES, TASKS, AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES; THE ASSESSMENT OF EXISTING EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING RESOURCES IN LIGHT OF THESE FINDINGS; AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING PRODUCTS AS NEEDED.
