Abstract
THE STATISTICS COVER THE NUMBER OF INMATES WHO ENTERED, PARTICIPATED IN, OR WERE TERMINATED FROM THE PROGRAM DURING 1977, THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THESE INMATES, SUCCESS/FAILURE RATES, AND PROGRAM COSTS. CLIENT CHARACTERISTICS COVERED INCLUDE SEX, RACE, AGE, MARITAL STATUS, NUMBER OF DEPENDENTS, COMMITTING OFFENSE, SENTENCE, PRIOR CONVICTIONS, TIME SERVED, SOURCE OF FIRST JOB ON WORK RELEASE, HOUSING DURING WORK RELEASE, SKILL LEVEL, NUMBER OF JOBS HELD (SUCCESSFULLY AND UNSUCCESSFULLY), EARNINGS AND EXPENSES, NET INCOME, NUMBER OF DAYS ON WORK RELEASE, AND TERMINATION STATUS. THE SUCCESS RATE (NOT DEFINED) FOR THE YEAR WAS 71.7 PERCENT FOR ADULTS, 25 PERCENT FOR YOUTHS, AND 61.8 PERCENT FOR ADULTS AND YOUTHS COMBINED. OF THE 60 ADULTS WHO WERE TERMINATED FROM THE PROGRAM DURING THE YEAR, 71.7 PERCENT WERE RELEASED ON PAROLE. OF THE 16 YOUTHS WHO WERE TERMINATED FROM THE PROGRAM, 50 PERCENT ESCAPED OR ABSCONDED. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF PROGRAM COST DATA, NO NARRATIVE INTERPRETATION IS PROVIDED. STATISTICS FOR 1968-1975 AND FOR 1976 ARE REPORTED IN NCJ-55665 AND 55667. (LKM)
