THIS ANNUAL REPORT OF THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR VOLUNTARY ACTION FOR THE YEAR JUNE 1977 TO 1978 DESCRIBES THE CENTER'S INTERACTION WITH BUSINESS, THE VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY, AND LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS.
Abstract
IN 1977, THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR VOLUNTARY ACTION (NCVA) CREATED THE VOLUNTEERS FROM THE WORKPLACE PROJECT TO RESPOND TO THE COMMUNITY SERVICE AND EMPLOYEE INVOLVEMENT INTERESTS OF THE CORPORATE COMMUNITY. IN LINE WITH THIS PROJECT, NCVA BEGAN A YEAR LONG STUDY OF THE NATURE AND SCOPE OF CORPORATE AND UNION EFFORTS TO SUPPORT WORKER INVOLVEMENT, INFORMATION EXCHANGE NETWORKS AMONG CORPORATIONS WITH VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS, AND SPECIAL PROJECTS WITH INDIVIDUAL CORPORATIONS. NCVA CONSULTED WITH THE CORPORATIONS ON THE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF WORKER VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS. NCVA, AN ADVOCATE FOR THE VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY, HAS DEVELOPED A POSITION PAPER ON THE NATURE OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE VOLUNTARY SECTOR AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. IT SERVED AS AN ORGANIZER OF NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AROUND SPECIFIC ISSUE AREAS AND MADE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CITIZEN EDUCATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, EDUCATION, AND WELFARE. DURING THE YEAR NCVA ALSO HELPED SPONSOR WORKSHOPS TO BRING HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAMS TO LOCAL VOLUNTEER LEADERS AND ADMINISTRATORS AND WORKED WITH THE NATIONAL INFORMATION CENTER ON VOLUNTEERISM ON A PROJECT TO MAKE PRINTED RESOURCE MATERIALS AVAILABLE TO VOLUNTEERS AND THEIR ORGANIZATIONS.
